Was Milo Yiannopoulos Forced to Resign From Breitbart?

Earlier today, Milo Yiannopoulos resigned from Breitbart. In his statements, he claimed “The decision was mine and mine alone”. However, there were reportedly discussions yesterday about his future there.

From the Washington Post:

By late Monday afternoon, there were ongoing discussions at Breitbart about Yiannopoulos’s future at the company, according to two people familiar with the organization who were not authorized to speak. Inside the newsroom, several staffers made clear to senior leadership that they felt uncomfortable and may decide to leave if he stays, the people said. There was also an aggressive liberal campaign to get advertisers to quit Breitbart News.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise if he was forced to resign. Either way, this is going to be a huge hit for both Milo and Breitbart. It seems as though they used to him to help push their agenda (getting Trump elected) and cast him out when he he was no longer useful. Breitbart gained a massive following due to Milo’s ability to appeal to a new audience. I think they will lose a good number of those people. Milo’s fans seem to be sticking by him. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for both Milo and Breitbart.

BREAKING — Milo Yiannopoulos has resigned from Breitbart News after a video resurfaced where he appeared to defend pedophilia, sparking outcry among liberals and conservatives alike. Milo has denied defending pedophilia. He says his words are being taken out of context.

“Breitbart News has stood by me when others caved,” Yiannopoulos, a Breitbart senior editor, said in a statement.

“I would be wrong to allow my poor choice of words to detract from my colleagues’ important reporting, so today I am resigning from Breitbart, effective immediately. This decision is mine alone,” Milo said.

“They have allowed me to carry conservative and libertarian ideas to communities that would otherwise never have heard them. They have been a significant factor in my success. I’m grateful for that freedom and for the friendships I forged there.”

He held a press conference at 3 PM EST. You can watch it here:

Or read it here:

Milo Seemed to hold back tears as he spoke, “I’m a gay man and a child abuse victim. Between the ages of 13 and 16 two men touched me in ways they should have. One of them was a priest. My relationship with my abusers is complicated in at the time I did not realize that I was being abused. But I can look back now and see that it was. I still don’t see myself as a victim but clearly I am one.”

“To be a victim of child abuse and at the same time be accused of being an apologist for child abuse is absurd.”, he stated. “I regret the things I said. I don’t think I’ve ever been as sorry about anything in my whole life.”

He also mentioned that his parents didn’t know. “And this isn’t how I wanted my parents to find out about this either.”

He didn’t mince words for the people who chose to wait until now to come forward with this. “This is a cynical media witch-hunt from people who do not care about children. They care about destroying me & my career and by extension my allies. They know that even though I made some outrageous statements I’ve never actually done anything wrong. They held this story back. They held the footage back. The footage has been out there in the wild for over a year. Because they do not care about victims. They don’t care about children. They only care about bringing me down. They will fail.”, he said.

He mentioned that his book “Dangerous” has received interest from other publishers after his previous publisher Simon & Schuster decided not to release it.  He said it will still come out this year as planned, and that 10% of the profits will go to child abuse charities.

He also stated that he will be announcing a new media venture of his own, as well as a new live tour and campus dates called the “Troll Academy Tour”.

This isn’t the first time that a young  conservative influencer has been the victim of a media hit job. PewDiePie was targeted by the media the same way, for essentially the same reasons.

Milo Yiannopoulos Book Deal Canceled, Disinvited from CPAC, Amidst Accusations of Statements Justifying Pedophilia in Newly Surfaced Video (My Thoughts)

It’s been a tough week so far for Milo Yiannopoulos. Yesterday, some old videos of Milo surfaced that has seems to show him justifying pedophilia. His comments are indeed disturbing. He seems to justify his being molested by a 20-30 year old priests a 14 year old and sort of laughs it off like it’s no big deal.

Conservative blogger Matt Walsh had quite a bit to say about it:

Milo has made several statements admitting that what happened to him was, in fact, abuse (which he seemed to avoid in the video) and that he doesn’t justify it at all. He has exposed many pedophiles in his career and finds it disgusting. He also admits that what he said was in poor taste.

Milo also aired a video apology as well to his followers via Facebook live which has since been deleted.
Even Matt Walsh seems convinced of his sincerity in the video:

As a result of these new “revelations”, he was disinvited from speaking at CPAC. And now Simon & Schuster has canceled his book.

Here are my thoughts: Milo was clearly sexually abused as a child. I think Joe Rogan  was asking him some very uncomfortable questions that he was not prepared for. It doesn’t seem characteristic of Milo to admit he is a victim and I’m sure he did not want to see himself as such. It seems as though now that he has had time to reflect on it, he does see himself that way. I hope that if he is truly disgusted by pedophilia, that he will expose the man that harmed him so that he cannot hurt anyone else.

Milo says that he had no idea he would become so famous when he said those things. I think many people, including myself, have said things that could be taken too seriously or taken out of context and used to make us look like terrible people if we were to become famous controversial figures.

It’s not really any shocker that Milo is somewhat sexually degenerate so should it really be that surprising that he would speak of his abuse in such a crass manner?  I have heard some say that he should not be using his platform to normalize this but the fact that he was not nearly as possible shows me that was not his intention. He seemed caught off guard by the questions and I’m sure it’s not easy thing to talk about, so he laughed it off.

I hope that he will use his abuse to bring to light an issue that feminists tend to sweep under the rug: there are many boys who are victims of sexual abuse and never tell anyone. Perhaps we spend so much time worrying about our daughters that we forget about our sons sometimes. It’s important that we talk to our sons about what is appropriate and what is abuse as well.  It does make me wonder though, if this abuse was the cause of his homosexuality, and how often that may the case with the increasing number of gay men in society.

Unfortunately, it looks like this is going to affect Milo quite negatively.
